With the great success of our Short Action Magnums, the time has come for us to expand into what some would call Serious Firepower! 7-300 Norma Magnum Improved, 300 Norma Magnum Improved, and 338 Norma. The 7-300 NMI and 300 NMI are a wildcat and as time goes on, all will see how cool they are.
The Norma Magnums have proven themselves in many long range aspects. Few small ammo companies make hunting ammo for these calibers and thought we should toss our hat in the ring. Multi-platform options for hunting and long range shooting will be available. The 7-300 NMI with 195gr EOLs proved to be very effective on whitetail, even with a 19" barrel. 4 deer at ranges of 320 yds-550 yds and all didn't go beyond 25 yards. Super flat shooting for those steep mountain shots and the power to ensure game drops quickly instead of going over the other side. It doesn't get much cooler than this type of setup.
With one of our core concepts, shorter than average barrels and silencers, it is a tough achievement to make large magnums perform well enough to justify them. Recoil is moderate, lots of powder being burned, higher cost, etc. Using a shorter barrel brings speed curves way down because the slower burning powders do not have enough room to get going so to speak. Using a fast burning powder isn't always the solution to this. Have to find the magic.
We will be using 19"-26" Barrels for our XLA Magnum versions and 28" barrels for heavy stock and chassis applications. Velocities will be slightly more than the Nosler calibers. We know what you're thinking.... What is the benefit, if only slight, when you must use a Magnum Length action? To try and duplicate the performance of the Normas, you would have to put the Nosler in the same length action to utilize all bullet choices available. Now the Nosler wouldn't be in a standard action which is it's number 1 advantage. Your choice of bullets can be limited with the Nosler family.
The Norma Magnum brass is shorter than the Nosler family but fatter to give it greater capacity. We could go on and on with debates. The Normas are really cool, have great component availability, and can go in rigged(stocked, scoped, ready to shoot) rifles less than 9 lbs. Want some weight to them to absorb some recoil but can go lighter.
These will be offered on the switch barrel system, Manners, Western Precision, AG stock, and a custom chassis. One can find benefit from all or simply choosing just one. Of course we will custom make to whatever length of barrel you like, stock, etc, but look at our concepts and see that super a long rifle may not be worth another 100-200 yards of lethal range on game.
Of course our education, and lifetime commitment to you and your rifle is second to none.
This wildcat is so awesome! 175gr-195gr hunting bullets traveling at 2600-2850FPS from a 19" barrel and 3100-3300 FPS from a 28". At 2000 yards, it will shoot 300 inches flatter than a 338 Lapua. LET THAT SINK IN! This will be available in stocks and a custom chassis that can be complemented with the 338-378 WBY barrel on the switch barrel system. Wait till you see that sucker when we get it done. One hunting stock, one chassis, 2 or more barrels, one action, couple mags and you have an insane weapon system. Not just one from a major brand that weighs 25 lbs that you really can't hunt with or carry and have no distinct features between it's calibers. Can't call them out here but am sure you have seen it.
This caliber definitely needs more attention from a sporting perspective. Competition performance is well known and sure our result will mirror the industry. The hunting aspect is where we add our flavor. 210gr-245gr hunting bullets. Out of a 19" barrel, expect 2600-2725 FPS. Don't forget a silencer.... Your choice obviously. Many great custom muzzle brakes available.
One final perspective. In equal length 26" barrels, advertised 30 Nosler ammo with a 210gr ABLR, the Norma is 75+ FPS faster. If you cut the barrel down on the Nosler, it will lose the ability to burn the powder properly. So would our Norma load for that length of barrel. When changing to a proper powder, and 19" barrels for both, the Norma still maintains atleast 75 FPS faster than the Nosler. Wanting to try that big Berger 245? Most likely an issue with the Nosler, perfect for the Norma.
Here come the RUM fans.... When pushed very close to max pressure, the 300 RUM is about 15 FPS shy of the Norma. We are more than 3k PSI below max pressure. Cartridge shape comes into play and look forwarding to finding someone for this challenge.
It's smaller brother gets some attention for hunting but the 338 sees far less. 250gr-300gr bullets will be used. It's a heavy hitter and proves itself to be lethal far beyond 1000 yards on game. With our standards, minimum expansion achieved and 1200 ft lbs of energy, this is capable of taking Elk at over 1300 yards! All with a 19" barrel!
We offer Manners and AG Composite stocks for these rifles. Custom chassis are also available. Have a handful of shop rifles in the works to give you a better idea and also a few clients already have builds going. It says a lot about what we do if clients ask us to do what most won't, and even when it has just started development. To quote one client, "You're building what...??? I have to have it. Check is in the mail."
Rugged Suppressors is the choice for the 7-300 and the 300. For 338, a SilencerCo Hybrid. Others out their will fail with short barrel lengths. As always, the choice is yours if you prefer a muzzle brake. All Mountain Thumpers will have a target weight of 8.5-9lbs rigged when using Carbon Fiber barrels or Shilen #3 contour or smaller. Detach magazines is our game but can be put into a BDL style mag system.
